How Coached training helped a 46yo athlete build confidence and podium

How structured coaching helped a 46-year-old athlete move from confusion to confidence, setting PBs and podiuming in duathlon.

Sandra is 46.

She runs. She cycles. She races duathlon and Hyrox.
She also balances work, family, and a full life outside training.

Before coaching

Before coaching, she followed the training plans inside her watch.
They looked official, but they were not realistic.

Pace-based sessions were too hard to finish.
Progress was unclear. Her confidence was low.

Training felt scattered. She had no clear way to measure progress.
So it became about adding kilometres for the sake of it.

She pushed harder, thinking effort would solve it.
Instead, she felt tired. Pace didn't improve. She was not able to go any longer. Heart rate data was there, but it didn't mean anything yet.

She felt stuck.

The shift

A structured plan, explained properly, changed how she saw training.
She learned where her zones actually were. How to pace herself. What each session was for. Why recovery mattered. How to read her heart rate numbers.

For the first time, training felt manageable.

At the beginning, there was uncertainty. Not about the plan, but about herself. She wasn't sure she could handle longer distances. She questioned whether she could really do it.

Step by step, she signed up for longer races. Then longer again.

Training was no longer random.
It was structured, realistic, and enjoyable.
The plan became a framework, not a rulebook.

She learned to listen to her body. To rest when needed. To stop comparing herself to others.

She grew as an athlete.

Results

Results followed.

Multiple half marathons with personal bests.
Her first marathon finish.
A long duathlon ahead.

She podiumed at the 2025 T100 Standard Duathlon.
First place in her age group.

She raced Hyrox four times.
Now she's building towards triathlon, with a 70.3 Ironman as a long-term goal.

The biggest shift sits outside the results.
Sandra trusts herself now.

She trains with confidence. She prioritises strength, mobility, and recovery. She enjoys the process. She values the community around her.

The lesson she carries forward is simple.

Consistency works. No matter the size of the goal.
